Senior Script Supervisor (EastEnders)
Description
- Review initial draft scripts for errors, determine scene length and highlight clearances for music, books or other copywritten material, always ensuring that the soap’s notable and dramatic storylines are handled with sensitivity, care and confidentiality.
- Develop a detailed synopsis of the scripts, cross-checking against the shooting schedule to ensure that all scenes are accounted for and character continuity has been taken into consideration.
- Create a script breakdown document to distribute to department teams, to include make-up, costume and props, ensuring that all crew are following the same storyline.
- Generate script amendments, camera scripts and camera cards ready for the shoot weeks for every script adaptation.
- Ensure script continuity and supervision, working closely with the Director and cast and backing up every department by monitoring the script during the shoot and making sure that errors in continuity do not occur that would prevent shots from being able to be compiled smoothly in the edit.
- During recording on a multi-camera set up, you may need to be across shot calling, timings, watching dialogue and artist continuity and accountable for producing detailed notes that outline each take and their useability in post-production.
- Time the final draft of the script and complete the daily progress report, highlighting any spread or shrinkage from the days original timings whilst producing an estimate of the total duration of each episode as it is shot. On the basis of these timings scenes may be cut or additional material written.
- Accountable for producing an accurate log of the shot descriptions on each camera, from start timecodes and duration log for each take, working closely with the Director so that they can continually assess the expected duration of each episode.
- To provide performers, crew and contributors with clear, concise and accurate information around continuity actions and instructing where continuity mistakes have occurred.
- Where required, the Script Supervisor will be responsible for completing required production paperwork and production reporting through web-based systems.
- To proactively work with the Series Script Supervisor to help create a high performance culture within the team, to include assistance with training, including development of new trainee Script Supervisors, staying up to date with and trialing new script and production related technologies in line with company business needs.
- Occasional deputising for the Series Script Supervisor, taking over responsibility for managing the team of block Script Supervisors, planning and scheduling work patterns and continue to build and retain a diverse and inclusive pool of talent.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern.
Requirements
- Significant experience of Script Supervising on multi-camera blocks.
- Experience of identifying clearances required for music, books or other copywritten material.
- Experience of creating script breakdown documents, to include amendments, camera scripts and camera cards.
- Excellent working knowledge of Final Draft.
- Experience of working with Directors and Actors.
- Experience of providing performers, crew and contributors with clear, concise and accurate information around continuity actions and instructing.
