The A Side: A Day in The Life
This role mainly consists of relationships and considered creative. Duties will include running point on creative for song writing trips for our global roster visiting the UK, and our writers travelling across the world, primarily LA, Nashville, Stockholm and Europe. As well as pitching songs, sharing expertise and information to our global A&R team and being the point person for any UK writing trip. Strong communication and organisational skills are a must as the role entails a lot of correspondence with artists, writers and managers. You will also be required to liaise between other internal departments such as Business Affairs and Film & TV.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Organised
  • Scheduling sessions for our artists and writers.
  • Assisting with logistics.
  • Being on top of the back-end information e.g registration, splits and song files.
  • Ability to take minutes during meetings and provide follow up in a timely manner.
  • Provide the team with context both culturally and statistically during meetings.
  • Be across all international writing trips to London.
  • Pitching songs across the UK label landscape, with consistent creative ideas to procure opportunities frequently.
Be Collaborative
  • Liaising with Writers and Management.
  • Providing the team with information and access to both artists, writers and culturally relevant events/moments.
  • Working alongside senior members of the team on deals and day to day servicing of our roster.
  • Field international meeting requests, trips, zooms etc for themselves and the wider team.
  • Work alongside label A&R's who have their artists going to other territories.
  • Attend gigs, showcases and rehearsals of unsigned artists that may be suitable for signing by UMPG.
  • Attend meetings with UMPG writers and artists.
  • Attend meetings with artist managers, Record Label A&R people and Music Lawyers.
  • Build and manage relationships with UMPG writers/artists/managers.
  • Managing internal relationships to ensure signed songwriters have a valuable experience.
Be Innovative
  • Discovering potential unsigned artists & songwriters through digital platforms.
  • Keeping ahead of current musical, social and cultural trends.
  • Bring in commercially viable opportunities for UMPG.
  • Establish a deep understanding of the UMPG Roster and wider songwriter community.

Requirements

Person Specification
Necessary
  • Strong proven track record in A&R or artist management.
  • Deep knowledge of musical trends, movements and styles.
  • Excellent internal & external networking skills involving building relationships, maintaining frequent communication, eliciting high-quality song demos and business opportunities for our artists
  • Strong analytical skills involving chart analysis, spreadsheets, pivot tables, and market research
  • Familiarity with artist contracts, publishing clearance, songwriter splits, production agreements, and negotiating deal terms
  • Professional experience with key global digital music platforms (Spotify, Apple, YouTube, Amazon, Joox, etc)
  • Familiarity with A&R budgets, financial reports and accounting specs
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and schedule.
  • Strong sense of initiative.
  • Discretion and understanding the information sharing nuances.
  • Must be proactive, willing and approachable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Diligent, responsible individual who pays attention to detail.
  • Analytical and methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to cope with the demands of a fast-paced and International oriented business, flexible attitude.
  • Ideal candidate must be prepared to work as part of a small but very busy team.
