The Insight department at Sony Music UK is focused on inspiring a better understanding of the audiences for our music and artists throughout the business. Our goal is to make Sony Music employees as passionate about our audiences as they are about our artists. Understanding audiences helps us work out how to efficiently target our marketing, sign the most compelling artists, form strategic partnerships, and inspire creativity. Insight is part of the Sony Music UK’s Audience Development function (alongside Analytics and CRM), sitting within a central UK creative department – 4th Floor Creative.
Being a central team, this is a brilliant opportunity to work across a huge breadth of different artist projects whilst learning about and utilising different research methodologies and digital tools to help teams across the business appreciate more about our artists’ fans and potential audiences. While some of the assignments would be partly admin-focused (for example, helping set up focus groups and brainstorms we run with the labels), we would envisage that the right candidate would very quickly progress to actively helping the team run insight projects – by assisting on projects initially, but ultimately running their own smaller projects too.
What You'll Do:
  • Respond to requests from labels for artist audience profiles leveraging our in-house data sources.
  • Work collaboratively with the analytics teams to deliver Social Health Checks and Competitor Reports.
  • Support the Insight team with some of the analysis for our in-house Artist Tracker
  • Support the team with label workshops.
  • Manage the Insight team’s reports and outputs, uploading them to our online portal.
  • Take on responsibility for our trends reporting, including weekly contributions to an internal newsletter that goes out to the wider business.
  • Support the team with a wide variety of ad hoc projects.
  • Deliver one bespoke insight project from beginning to end by the end of the internship.
  • Provide admin support for SVP, Digital & Audience Development when PA or Operations Manager is on holiday; i.e., diary management, meeting preparation, printing documents, greeting visitors (in-office as required)


  • This role would be a great opportunity for anyone looking to rapidly develop their research, insight, analysis and storytelling skills in a stimulating, fast paced and always-changing industry.
  • Prior experience of manipulating basic data in Excel and PowerPoint is essential as this will be a major area of support required.
  • Proficient, experienced user of Microsoft Office suite – especially Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Attention to detail.

  • An appreciation and love for culture in all its forms (“high” and “low”) – most especially music!
  • Efficient and good time management skills.
  • A keen eye for design and presentation.
