Job Introduction
BBC Radio 6 Music is a radio station for music lovers with a curious spirit. We shine a light, lend an ear and give platform to music beyond the mainstream. We are a highly distinctive network, playing and celebrating a breadth of artists and music across eras and genres. BBC Radio 6 Music is seeking to grow its audience, profile and reach of the network amongst 25-44 age group. We aim to deepen and broaden the music we play and stories we tell on air and on demand in partnership with BBC Sounds.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the leadership team in BBC Audio (key suppliers of 6 Music programming). BBC Audio devises, develops and delivers original content for the BBC. We produce award winning radio programmes and podcasts, deliver live events, provide creative services and forge partnerships. Our portfolio of 6 Music programmes includes Lauren Laverne, Mary Anne Hobbs, Steve Lamacq, New Music Fix Daily, Jamz Supernova, Don Letts, Iggy Pop and Cerys Matthews.
6 Music has production bases in both London and Salford.
Main Responsibilities
Radio 2 and 6 Music have a team of creative editorial leaders with the ability to manage content, people and resources to ensure the success of Radio 2 and 6 Music Production teams in delivering to the Network brands in the modern digital world.
This team will work to the Senior Head of Content Production to further build a culture of excellence and deliver the Network’s objectives.
The Editor role ensures the strategy and vision for the team is communicated and understood and provides creative leadership for their team. They hold editorial oversight for all aspects of content production and development, including compliance, management and delivery, and ensure content reflects our diverse audiences. They work closely with Network Commissioners and a variety of key stakeholders.

Requirements

Are you the right candidate?
  • You will need to demonstrate extensive experience of making content with a clear editorial vision, along with experience of working with a range of on-air talent, DJs and musicians.
  • Experience of working in a music network at Producer level and of leading a music project/creative idea involving a team is essential.
  • You will also have proven ability to develop innovative output, be open to new ideas and motivate colleagues to take creative risks, within the parameters of the BBC Guidelines.
  • You'll demonstrate a good understanding of audiences and of the wider industry.
  • Good experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships with commissioners, partners and colleagues, and good leadership skills at a senior level is required.
  • You will have an extensive knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines
  • You will ideally have experience of financial responsibility as it relates to content.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills are necessary.
  • Resilience is important at this level.
