Job Purpose: To further Sony Music Publishing’s place, leadership, and expertise in the Music Publishing Industry
What You’ll Do: (job responsibilities)
Under the supervision of team management, and in conjunction with internal and external business partners, the Senior Coordinator, Copyright will:
  • Build relationships with business partners [such as BeatStars and The Orchard], SMP local offices, songwriters, managers, attorneys and labels to service a rapidly growing roster of writers and songs
  • Working closely with and taking direction from the leadership team, affiliated “local” offices, and external business partners
  • Day-to-day entry and maintenance of business partners’ client and song data
  • Provide research support and basic evaluation and analysis to assist with songwriter split disputes and administrative counterclaims
  • Coordinate with responsible parties to obtain confirmed share(s) for split deliveries and amendments such as:
  • internal SMP teams: A&R, Creative Admin, Licensing, Income Tracking, Royalties, and Global SMP Affiliates
  • external business partners: BeatStars, The Orchard, performing rights organizations (PROs), collective management organizations (CMOs), record labels, and other income sources
  • Compile Letters of Direction (LODs) and supporting documentation
  • Working in conjunction with Atlassian JIRA products and platforms
  • Assist in developing and testing system enhancements
  • Coordinate and support special projects and growth initiatives to meet evolving business requirements
  • Review release schedules, reports and song charts to ensure accurate and timely registrations

Requirements

Who You Are: (skills and experience required)
  • 2+ years of music publishing experience. A fundamental understanding of copyright administration is preferred
  • Understanding of confidential and privileged information
  • Experience with problem solving and independent decision-making in complex, and sometimes vague situations
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, and output
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Motivated to learn, develop, retain, and train new skills
  • Capacity to work in a highly collaborative team environment, as well as work independently
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations, directions, and deadlines
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume, customer service-oriented team
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and communicate with the team leader on a regular basis.
  • Competency with music business databases, and Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), or the equivalent
  • Experience working in Atlassian products and platforms (Jira, Confluence), or the equivalent
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong research and analysis abilities
  • 7.5-hour business workday but variations in work volume frequently require extended working hours for evening and late-night events
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
