Production Journalist/ Content Editor
Description
- We are looking for an experienced and multi-skilled Journalist to join our broadcast and digital news team at ITV News Calendar.
- The successful candidate will be a self-motivated journalist, who loves the production and teamworking involved in broadcast news with an ambition to make our flagship programme at 6pm.
- You’ll also have a passion to tell stories from across this exciting and richly diverse part of the UK. You’ll have a current contacts list, bulging with links to different communities, the ability to bring in ideas and a clear understanding of how to get them to air.
- You will be able to show how you cope with a demanding and changing workload, meet frequent tight deadlines and work calmly and inclusively under pressure.
- The role is based in our Leeds newsroom, and the successful candidate will work across the different shifts our Production Journalists and Content Editors fulfil on television and digital news production. This includes producing early, late and weekend bulletins, planning stories and creating online content. We’d welcome applications from candidates who have experience of, or an ambition to produce half hour news programmes and carry out news editing shifts.
- You will also have outstanding written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to demonstrate good working relationships with colleagues and external contacts. You will have excellent editorial judgement and social media skills, and you’ll know what gets the region talking. You will have qualified in media law and have a thorough understanding of the Ofcom Code.
Requirements
- A strong knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement and accuracy in your writing.
- A good knowledge of ITV Calendar and the stories and areas of interest for the many communities in the region.
- Able to generate, research and develop original ideas, for online and television.
- A strong journalistic curiosity, good command of language, accurate spelling & grammar, and an eye for detail.
- An ability to think about a task or problem in a new or different way using imagination to generate new ideas and to solve complex problems.
- An ability to bring a different perspective and point of difference to our coverage.
- Appreciation and experience of how to create content for online to best effect across all platforms. Demonstrable understanding of the opportunities that online provides both as a research and promotional tool.
- Ability to work successfully, and positively, as part of a team, to deadlines and focusing well under pressure.
- An understanding of the difference between and importance of Diversity & Inclusion in determining output.
- A fresh and engaging approach to digital output.
