Who We’re Looking For
The Gallery Production Manager is responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the GRAMMY museum’s galleries and off-site storage, and the installation and de-installation of all exhibits. The role requires close coordination and communication with all museum departments and the supervision of vendors, skilled technical employees, contractors, and other professionals.
Reporting to the Chief Curator & VP of Curatorial Affairs and working collaboratively with the Curatorial and Collections teams, the Gallery Production Manager provides production management and creative, hands-on support for all exhibits, including traveling exhibits, produced by and for the GRAMMY Museum.
The Gallery Production Manager creates and maintains the Curatorial production calendar, coordinating with other team members, departments, and vendors, and directly handles gallery maintenance and preparation. The Gallery Production Manager provides oversight and leads all gallery change-outs and updates; hires, schedules and coordinates contractors and vendors to ensure that they meet their deadlines and are paid; handles general gallery preparation; and organizes and manages the curatorial department’s onsite and offsite storage and inventory.
This position requires a strategic thinker and doer who maintains a balance between creative vision and project management skills, which will require one to actively roll up their sleeves to bring great ideas to life.
What You’ll Do
  • Work with Curatorial team overseeing the planning, execution, installation, and de-installation of exhibits, utilizing project management best practices, including detailed project schedules, budgets, and communication platforms to ensure high-quality exhibits are completed on time and within budget.
  • Confer with all stakeholders to be sure they are well represented and incorporated within a strong team environment.
  • Ensure that meetings are called, and information is regularly shared as appropriate, to keep all team members moving forward.
  • Lead and manage exhibit implementation onsite, including coordinating with vendors, internal department heads, and museum staff, as well as physically doing the work.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve any problems that arise during exhibit installations and alert senior staff to any significant changes.
  • Oversee the production and workflow of assigned projects.
  • Management of back-of-house (curatorial workroom) and front-of-house (galleries), and the movement and logistics between each space, specifically during exhibit installation and de-installation.
  • Oversight of offsite storage facility, including casework, exhibit supplies and inventory.
  • Assistance with AV and technical needs for general museum updates and during installation and deinstallation of exhibits.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Curatorial team and internal stakeholders (operations/security/events) regarding the museum's operational calendar and general communication.

Requirements

Skills & Experience
The following are skills required for success within this position:
  • 5 years relevant and applied experience with museums, production companies, touring shows, tradeshows, or event firms.
  • Demonstrated skill at creating and managing production schedules and budgets.
  • Must be detail-orientated with excellent organizational and verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, and work independently.
  • Awareness of and ability to continuously keep-up with changing industry norms and best practices.
  • Ability to use power tools, lift and move objects, and set lighting.
  • Knowledge of standard AV software and gear, including projectors, monitors, and speakers.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle. Ability to drive a box truck or tractor trailer is a plus.
