Shows in the Theater Series are produced “in-house” and unlike our presented events, run for several weeks.

Position Summary
In close collaboration with the Director of Marketing, the Associate Director of Marketing implements, monitors, and evaluates marketing and communications strategy to support company objectives and maximize positive exposure in local and national markets. This position plays a key role in content creation as a copy writer/editor and in the cultivation and management of media relations, actively seeking earned media placements that elevate and advance McCarter’s institutional profile as well as promote all of the company’s programming including Theatre, Music, Dance, Jazz, Family, Education and Fundraising events.
Principal Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee and maintain the production calendar and coordinate with other department personnel to ensure timely completion of all projects.
  • Write, proof and edit copy for a variety of materials to ensure consistency of institutional voice and style across all projects.
  • Collaborate with Director of Marketing to develop earned media story ideas and positioning for all programming
  • Write and distribute press releases to media outlets and ensure listings/community calendars are up to date.
  • Seek and facilitate interviews for feature stories/broadcast segments
  • Coordinate press coverage of events including, but not limited to, Opening Nights
  • Maintain consistent awareness of institutional events, meetings, and other information via company email and other modes of communication.
  • Adhere to safe working practices and follow all McCarter safety and code of conduct policies.
  • Participate in the work to make McCarter an antiracist theater. Actively seek ways to improve our work practices to make the Marketing Department and McCarter as a whole more Equitable and Inclusive.
  • Work Environment
  • In-person work will primarily be completed in the administrative offices at 91 University Pl, Princeton, NJ in a shared office space.
  • This position is required to be on-site and in attendance for all meet and greets, dress rehearsals and opening night performances. These will be scheduled in advance.

Requirements

LOCATION & SCHEDULE: This is an in-person/virtual hybrid position reporting to our administrative offices located at 91 University Place in Princeton, NJ. In-person requirements are based on departmental needs and staff meetings. Regular business hours are Monday thru Friday, 10am – 6pm.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, copywriting and media relations
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Experience with and interest in data/analytics in a sales environment
  • Ability to work in an on-site/off-site hybrid environment
  • Strong EDIA and antiracism critical consciousness or curiosity and willingness to grow in these areas
  • Start date is contingent upon providing proof of having received a primary series vaccination against COVID-19; subsequent boosters are strongly encouraged, though not required
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will embody an enthusiasm for theatre and live performing arts, with particular interest in supporting and elevating the work of global artists across many disciplines
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and CRM Systems, such as Tessitura, is a plus
  • Experience with the administration and management of performing arts institutions and theatre is preferred
