Assistant Producer, Marketplace Morning Report
Description
- Create, produce and develop regular show segments.
- Work with editors and reporters to produce integrated features and Q&A segments.
- Initiate and research stories and segment ideas and concepts.
- Writes consistently strong headlines and story summaries.
- Regularly generates original stories using multiple platforms.
- Apply deeper, honed digital skills to assignments and projects.
- This position sits in the collective bargaining agreement between Marketplace and Screen Actors Guild—American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (“SAG-AFTRA”).
- Serve as the director of the program, including creating rundowns, selecting music, monitoring deadlines, formatting scripts, coordinating fixes, and managing archiving and related systems.
- Pitch, book, produce and edit host interviews, including with high-profile guests and newsmakers.
- Book and prep guests quickly and in breaking news situations.
- Identify and evaluate talent for potential as regular guests on the program.
- Field produce host interviews outside of the studio, along with other show segments as required.
- Work closely with host and executive producer to develop signature show segments featuring host.
- Produce digital content on Marketplace's social media and digital platforms.
- Help foster a creative and productive work environment.
- Pitch and produce signature Marketplace elements, including non-narrated pieces and host features.
- Manage timely delivery for all elements of the program.
- Train production assistants and interns, as needed.
- Monitor audio quality and use of sound in program, with technical director.
- Collaborate with other show directors to establish standard practices, maintain musical "voice", and to identify and resolve director’s concerns.
- Fill in for other positions at Marketplace, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
- One or more years' radio production, news gathering, editorial, or related professional experience.
- Experience in editing digital audio required
- Experience in multi-media production preferred
- Excellent news judgment.
- Ability to quickly write and edit smart, compelling content for a variety of platforms.
- Resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve.
- Independent, and takes initiative
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong critical judgment skills and the ability to make decisions regarding credibility, personality, and value of material to program.
- Ability to successfully meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis.
- Strong research skills.
- Superior communication, organizational and collaborative skills.
- Previous employment working in a national news organization.
- Field production experience.
- Directing experience.
- Reporting experience.**
