Job Description:
The Assistant Director for Programming, Engagement, and Learning designs and implements a wide range of diversity and inclusion programs and events, as well as develop, coordinate, and implement engagement, education, and learning opportunities for members of the Berklee community though Berklee’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The Assistant Director for Programming, Engagement, and Learning is supervised by the Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and works collaboratively with members of the Division of Community, Campus Climate, and Culture and colleagues across Berklee.
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree or equivalent professional experience
Required Work Experience: 3+ years of experience in engagement and programming
Preferred Work Experience: Professional work experience in higher education administration, programming, student activities, student development, and/or diversity and inclusion
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, coordinate, and implement a range of diversity and inclusion programs, events, and engagement opportunities including community building programs, topical programs, student leadership development programs, and programming series.
  • Collaborate with institutional partners across Berklee’s learning environments to develop, coordinate, and implement signature D&I programming for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Work closely with Student and Campus Life to serve as the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s primary liaison to students and identity/affinity-based student organizations.
  • Develop and deliver D&I presentations, workshops, and information sessions to students, faculty, and staff during orientation, new student welcome, admissions events, and other forums.
  • Develop and curate diversity and inclusion resources, content, materials, as well as program and event information for the Hub, calendars, social media, and office website.
  • Collaborate with staff in the Division of Community, Campus Culture, and Climate (4C) to align and coordinate programmatic offerings, trainings, and engagement opportunities offered through the division.
  • Under the supervision of the AVP of Diversity and Inclusion, triage and respond to general diversity and inclusion inquiries and requests that come to the diversity and inclusion office from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Chair the Religious and Cultural Observances Programming committee with institutional partners and student leaders.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of diversity, belonging, inclusion, equity, social justice, and related concepts.
  • Significant knowledge and experience in developing and implementing diversity and inclusion programs, events, trainings and workshops within a higher education or related.
  • Positive attitude, flexibility and adaptability, as well as a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of constituents across the institution (e.g, diverse backgrounds, diverse identities, and a range of knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion concepts and practices, students/faculty/staff).
  • Excellent communication skills. Necessary skills include meeting facilitation, presenting, and creating documents for a wide variety of audiences and constituencies including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and excellent reliability.
  • Demonstrated capacity for innovative, and creative thinking and problem solving in program development, program implementation, program delivery, and working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ideal applicants possess a deep appreciation of the performing arts, as well as an understanding of the discipline and training needed for a career in the arts.
